Social media has had a huge impact on protest movements around the world
Crowdvoice, a site developed by Mideast Youth, is a platform that lets people curate social media content from across the web, creating a single place to go for updates on breaking protest news. The site arranges content on a scrolling page similar in feel to Pinterest, with content pulled in from other sites. Which content gets pulled in is dependent on the users of the site. Mideast Youth’s Esra’a Al Shafei, explains:
We saw an influx of information – people were posting on their blogs, putting videos on YouTube, and we discovered that nobody was able to discover this information, [Crowdvoice is] a tool to help people discover this information from people who are trying to be heard in as many ways as possible.
Another advantage of Crowdvoice is that it becomes a better resource for journalists wanting to report on social movements, even ones in countries where they don’t speak the appropriate language.
