Desktop 3D Printer Creates Ceramic Bricks for Buildings

It’s time to say goodbye to manually creating bricks of unusual shapes for avant-garde structural designs.

Amsterdam-based architect Brian Peters has adapted his knowledge of 3D printing onto the architectural landscape by successfully programming a desktop 3D printer to create ceramic bricks for architectural structures through his “Building Bytes” initiative.

Peters combined his 2-year background in 3D printing with a six-week residency at the European Ceramic Work Center to experiment with printing ceramics of varying shapes and sizes, from stars to polygons, using a custom extrusion head for the printer. Peters says:
