Hope that it will “spark a new era of network-based inquiry.”
ZMap is an open-source tool that can scan every IP address in the world in under 45 minutes. It was created to scan computers in any given area in order to provide real-time data, especially during emergency situations like Hurricane Sandy.
Three computer science researchers from the University of Michigan, Zakir Durumeric, Eric Wustrow and J. Alex Halderman, developed ZMap and hope that it will “spark a new era of network-based inquiry.” The team has performed over 200 Internet-wide scans over the course of the last year while developing and experimenting with their new tool.
