Credit Card iPhone Case Lets You Throw Away Your Wallet

The Geode iPhone case from start-up iCache has built-in payment technology that stores your credit cards, loyalty cards, gift cards and membership cards, and lets you use them even when you don’t have them with you.

A detachable card reader allows users to enter data from magnetic stripe cards into the Geode app and cards with barcodes can be scanned using the iPhone’s camera. Once you have stored your cards you can leave them at home and use Geode at the checkout instead. The app protects your information with biometric security and a fingerprint reader is used to unlock it and input cards.

When you want to use a card, you select it from the app. A universal Geode Card is provided in the back of the case for magnetic stripe card transactions. This is temporarily programmed with the details of the selected card and can be swiped as normal. An auto-timeout feature allows users to decide how long the card stays active before it erases the information. For cards with barcodes, Geode displays the barcode on its e-ink display, which can then be scanned by existing POS terminals or barcode readers.
